In an effort to spend mre time with my kids, I started a midday activity affectionately called "art time." We've done some fun projects-the biggest hit being simply painting with water colors. I'm looking for new ideas. Does anyone have any suggestions of low-cost=easy-to-do art projects? I'm all ears- or rather, eyes.

You can make your own salt dough, the kids have fun making it and playing with it.
I have a box full of felt, pom poms, foamies, pipecleaners etc. You can find all this kind of stuff at the $1 store, we just make whatever we feel like that day.
The kids also love to help me make cookies, especially sugar cookies.
Finger paint with chocolate pudding, messy but yummy.
make something with stuff you find outside, leaves, sticks, rocks. Paint a rock, give it some eyes. Make a leaf mobile for their room.
Oh I'm just full of ideas, let me know if you need some more.
one of the best ones I've done was make salt dough, shape it into something, then bake it. After that we painted them with acryllics. It was a huge hit! And I still have a hand print from my daughter when she was a year and a half old! It's great! (and if you already have the paint, its free!)

Breaking up old crayons into muffin tins, baking them until they melt to form circle multi-colored crayons. My kids LOVED them- it was on my blog this past summer!

As far as Carl, he called me right as he was shipping out this last time and I didn't get the call because I was at work. He should be home in Jan. or Feb. and I can give you his contact info then. I just love him to bits and pieces and hope with every fiber in me that he stays safe.

What a beautiful family you have! I can't believe you have 5 children. I have a hard time keeping things straight with 2. And you do craft time? Wow, you have got to be an awesome mother. It was good to hear from you and see you cute family.
As far as creative ideas, I have none. so, thanks for posting this so I could look at the ideas people sent you.
there are recipies for cinnamon ornaments, play dough and oobleck in the back of the New Allen Family Cookbook. Maybe the cinnamon ornaments would be good to make for your tree?
Peanut butter playdough is one of my favorites. It's easy to make and delicious to eat!
Also, I have a few fun paper plate crafts, such as ladybugs, coiled up snakes, shakers, etc.
Also, on Wed. night, my cousins and I got together for our monthly ladies night out. My cousin had a fun idea. I haven't tried it yet, but she said to take a bunch of old crayons, melt them on the stove, then fill your sink up with cold water. Pour the crayons in the water and they solidify, making fun icicle type shapes.
I agree with everyone else, you have an adorable bunch of kids. You're a great mom, too. We're lucky to live above your family.
